We are proud to present the 1st edition of the emergency response team leader learning materials. We have assembled this edition in order to prepare you, the course participant, as effectively as possible for your new challenge as a team leader.

Every employer should ensure that there is expert emergency response assistance available. In order to determine which specific company emergency response expertise is necessary, a Risk Assessment & Evaluation (RI&E) is performed. Depending on the nature, size and location of the company, and the unavoidable risks in the company, one or more employees must be trained as an emergency response officer. Each ERO must be skilled in carrying out one or more emergency response tasks. The company emergency response team as a whole must be capable of performing all of the necessary tasks. In the event that multiple EROs are deployed, some coordination may be required. A team leader can take on this role.

It is essential that a team leader coordinates ER-activities in a structured way by providing leadership, instructing EROs, following procedures, providing information, giving orders to EROs and ensuring the safety of the ER-team.

This book covers the knowledge and skills necessary for an ER team leader. You will learn how to apply theoretical knowledge about fire safety, the insights around smoke spread and risks and incident scenarios in your role as a team leader. This will enable you to make informed decisions during an ER-intervention. The book also contains practical assignments that help you apply the theoretical knowledge to your own company situation. In addition, QR codes have been included that take you to videos to clarify the learning materials and give examples of company emergency response leadership.
